Terms of service
foyl Learn (app.foyl.io, operated by foyl - "we") is a cybersecurity learning platform: simulated security tools, labs, drills, scenarios, and study material. A large part of it is free to use, with or without an account; some advanced content is part of a paid tier, described under plans and payment. By creating an account or using the platform you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy. If you do not agree, do not use the platform.
Who can use foyl Learn
- You must be at least 16 years old. The platform is designed for college-level students, career changers, and working professionals; it is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly hold accounts for anyone under 16. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 16 we will delete it.
- If you are using the platform through a class or institution, you are still individually bound by these terms.
- One account per person; keep your GitHub account secure. You are responsible for activity on your account.
What the platform is - and is not
- Everything on foyl Learn is a simulation. The security tools are mock interfaces; the company ("foyl SecIntel"), its employees, incidents, indicators, and infrastructure are entirely fictional. Any resemblance to real people or organizations is coincidental.
- The platform teaches defensive security concepts for education. Nothing here is professional security advice, and completing content does not certify you to perform security work.
- Certificates issued by the platform record your completion of foyl Learn content. They are not accredited credentials and are not affiliated with any certification body. Practice questions for third-party certifications are study aids, not official materials.
- The ATT&CK® matrix content is based on the MITRE ATT&CK framework; foyl is not affiliated with or endorsed by The MITRE Corporation.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use anything you learn here to access, disrupt, or attack systems you do not own or lack explicit authorization to test.
- Probe, overload, or attempt to bypass the platform's security or rate limits, scrape accounts or class data, or automate bulk requests against the APIs.
- Guess or share class invite codes to join classes you were not invited to, or impersonate an instructor or another person.
- Use the platform to send spam or for any unlawful purpose.
Good-faith security research about the platform itself is welcome: report findings to support@foyl.io rather than exploiting them.
Classes and instructors
- Joining a class with an invite code shares your display name, progress, checkpoints, and certificates with that class's instructor, as described in the privacy policy. You can leave a class at any time.
- Instructors may only add students to classes for legitimate teaching purposes, must keep roster data confidential, and may not export or reuse student data outside the platform. Instructors teaching learners under 16 may not direct them to create accounts.
- Students create their own accounts and join classes themselves; instructors do not upload student identities. Progress shown to an instructor is practice telemetry, not an official academic record - official grades live in the institution's own systems.
- Instructor accounts are verified by us before they can create classes, view rosters, or assign shifts. Once an instructor is verified, every student enrolled in one of their classes has the full platform at no charge for as long as they remain enrolled. There is no seat limit and no per-student fee. Classroom, departmental, and institutional use - including verification and how student data is handled - is covered by the institutional & classroom use terms.
Plans and payment
- The free tier is substantial and we intend to keep it that way. It currently includes every simulated security tool, every drill, the whole certification bank including timed practice sets, the glossary, concepts and interview material, the ATT&CK matrix, and the foundation labs. A free account additionally saves your progress.
- The full platform adds the advanced labs, foyl Range, the report builders, foyl Shift, the incident walkthroughs, printable certificates, and the public Analyst Dossier.
- You can reach the full platform in two ways: by enrolling in a class run by a verified instructor (free to you, for as long as you are enrolled), or by a paid plan.
- Paid plans are not yet on sale. Access is granted manually at present. When paid plans open we will publish prices, billing terms, renewal and cancellation arrangements, and your statutory cancellation rights before taking any payment. Nothing on the platform today constitutes an offer to sell.
- We may change what sits in each tier. We will not move content you have already paid for out of a plan you are actively paying for, mid-term.
Your content and our content
The platform's content, design, and code are owned by foyl or its licensors. You may use the platform and print or share your own certificates for personal, educational, and classroom purposes. You may not resell platform content or present it as your own.
Copyright concerns
If you believe material on foyl Learn infringes your rights, email support@foyl.io with your contact details, identification of the protected work, the exact platform URL, and enough information for us to locate the material. We will review good-faith notices promptly and may disable or remove disputed material while we investigate.
No warranty
The platform is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied - including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of content, or uninterrupted availability. Content may contain errors; simulated data deliberately differs from real-world tools.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, foyl will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or exemplary damages - including lost data, lost opportunities, or academic or professional consequences - arising from your use of, or inability to use, the platform. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or nil where you have paid us nothing. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Suspension and termination
We may suspend or delete accounts that violate these terms, abuse the platform, or create risk for other users, with or without notice. You can delete your own account at any time from the privacy & data page; deletion is permanent.
Changes
We may update these terms as the platform evolves. Material changes will be flagged on the sign-in page; continuing to use the platform after a change means you accept the updated terms.
